Frequently Asked Questions
According to Safe Work Australia and AS 2865, a confined space is any enclosed or partially enclosed space that is not designed to be a normal workplace. It typically has restricted entry or exit points and presents specific atmospheric risks—such as harmful airborne contaminants, oxygen depletion, or engulfment hazards. Common examples include vats, tanks, pits, pipes, sewers, and shafts.
Legally, a national Statement of Attainment for RIIWHS202E doesn’t expire. However, because working in restricted areas carries high operational risks, industry regulations, major infrastructure builders, and mining companies universally mandate a refresher course every 2 years to maintain a valid on-site ticket.
You will get extensive, hands-on training with critical safety gear, including:
-
Gas Detectors: Learning how to bump-test, calibrate, and read atmospheric levels for toxic or combustible gases and oxygen levels.
-
Risk Control Gear: Setting up physical barriers, mechanical retrieval tripods, winches, and safety harnesses.
-
Documentation: Completing and signing off on mandatory legal documents like Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and Confined Space Entry Permits.
There are no formal academic pre-requisites to enrol in RIIWHS202E. However, you must be at least 15 years old and have basic English literacy to understand safety signalling and complete entry documentation. Physically, you must be able to put on a safety harness and participate in simulated entry and extraction scenarios.
Because you will be working physically with mechanical tripods, winches, and rigging configurations, you must wear standard trade work clothing. This includes steel-cap boots, a high-visibility shirt or vest, and a hard hat. SafeZone Training provides all specialized gas monitoring and rescue rigging technology required for the practical modules.
We offer a fast-tracked, blended format designed to respect your schedule. You will complete your regulatory theory assessments online at your own pace before attending. This clears the deck for a highly practical, 1-day face-to-face session (typically 4 to 6 hours). Once successfully completed, your accredited national ticket is emailed to you that same evening.
