1. RIIWHS204E Work Safely at Heights (Standalone)

To enrol in this course, you must meet the following general, physical, and language entry criteria:

  • Age: Minimum of 18 Years

  • Identification: Must provide official photo ID (e.g., Driver’s Licence, Passport) on the day.

  • USI: A valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) is mandatory for all nationally recognised training in Australia.

  • Physical Capability: * Must be physically fit and healthy with the agility to perform manual tasks, climb ladders/structures, and wear tight-fitting PPE.

    • Must have the capability to lift equipment from the ground to overhead and access heights typically above 2 metres.

    • Should not suffer from severe acrophobia (fear of heights).

  • Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN): Must be able to read, write, and speak English well enough to interpret safety signage, fill out risk assessments (JSA/SWMS), and communicate clearly with a team. RTOs usually conduct a basic LLN assessment prior to commencement.

  • Clothing/PPE: You must supply and wear your own steel-cap boots and comfortable work clothing (long pants and sleeves are standard).

2. RIIWHS204E Work Safely at Heights + Confined Spaces

(Typically paired with RIIWHS202E Enter and work in confined spaces)

When combining heights with a Confined Spaces ticket, the entry requirements are the same as above, with these critical physical and safety additions:

  • No Claustrophobia: You must be psychologically comfortable working in tight, enclosed, or dark environments.

  • Physical Agility: Confined space training requires crawling, bending, and squeezing through small access hatches or pipes.

  • Respiratory Fitness: You must be physically capable of wearing specialized safety equipment, which may include safety harnesses used for tripod extrications and breathing apparatuses (if a gas testing module is included).

3. RIIWHS204E Work Safely at Heights + EWP

(Typically paired with RIIWHS204E + RIIWHS205E Control traffic with portable traffic control devices and signs OR a High Risk Work Licence TLILIC0005 Licence to operate a boom-type elevating work platform (boom length 11 metres or more))

If you are pairing Working at Heights with an EWP course, the requirements depend on the type of EWP ticket:

  • Yellow Card (Under 11m boom / Scissor lifts): General entry requirements match the standard heights course 18 Years +

  • High Risk Work Licence (WP Class – 11m+ Boom Lift): If the combo includes the WorkSafe/SafeWork HRW licence, the entry requirements become much stricter:

    • Age: Must be strictly 18 years of age or older.

    • Evidence of Identity (EOI): Must meet the strict SafeWork point system for identity (typically 100 points of ID, including primary documents like passports/birth certificates and proof of NSW/state residency).

    • Higher LLN Standards: SafeWork mandates that the high-risk written and practical licensing assessments must be conducted in English without the use of an interpreter.
