Specialised Compliance for Early Childhood and Education Care

Enrolling in our HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting course gives you the gold-standard, ACECQA-approved qualification required to legally work in the Australian childcare, schooling, and early childhood sectors. This highly specialized curriculum shifts focus from standard adult first aid to the specific physiological and psychological needs of infants, toddlers, and school-aged children. Through hands-on, realistic scenarios, you will master emergency responses for paediatric asthmatic crises, severe anaphylactic allergic reactions, choking, and febrile seizures, while training on specialized child-and infant-sized resuscitation manikins. Designed for educators, childcare workers, school staff, and family day-care operators, this comprehensive program goes beyond basic first aid to deliver the definitive compliance, regulatory knowledge, and situational confidence required to protect the most vulnerable lives under your supervision.

Frequently Asked Questions

HLTAID012 is a specialized first aid qualification approved by the Australian Children’s Education & Care Quality Authority (ACECQA). It is specifically designed for educators, childcare workers, teachers, and support staff, focusing heavily on the unique physiological and emergency care needs of infants, toddlers, and school-aged children.

Yes. The HLTAID012 course is comprehensive and fully encompasses all the elements of both HLTAID009 (Provide CPR) and HLTAID011 (Provide First Aid). If you hold an HLTAID012 certificate, you are fully qualified to act as a general workplace first aider for adults, in addition to your paediatric qualifications.

The overall HLTAID012 qualification remains legally valid for 3 years from your date of assessment. However, to maintain regulatory workplace compliance and adhere to Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines, you must refresh the CPR component (HLTAID009) every 12 months.

To meet mandatory national training standards, participants must be physically capable of performing at least 2 minutes of continuous floor-level CPR on an adult manikin and 2 minutes of continuous CPR on an infant manikin. Because this is a strict regulatory requirement for childcare licensing, the assessment cannot be modified or performed on a table.

This course focuses deeply on medical crises common in education and care environments, including:

  • Pediatric asthma management and severe anaphylaxis (allergic reactions).

  • Infant and child choking protocols.

  • Febrile convulsions, seizures, and high fevers.

  • Minor and severe bleeding, fractures, dislocations, and head injuries.

  • Envenomation (snake, spider, and marine stings or bites) and poisoning.

There are no formal academic prerequisites for this course. However, you will need to complete your standard enrolment details and submit your national student registration information online. A basic understanding of English (verbal and written) is also necessary to complete the assessments.

The course uses a blended format: you complete an interactive online theory module at your own pace before arriving, saving you valuable time. This is followed by a 1-day face-to-face practical session (usually 5 to 7 hours). SafeZone Training provides same-day digital certification via email once both components are successfully completed.
